Errors while upsizing Access database to SQLS2k
"Create new database" option.
I select "LOCAL" as the database. and check [x] use trusted connection.
SQL server is on this local machine. I supply a name for the new
database and click [Next>] and I get the following error.
================================================== ===============
Connection failed:
SQLState: '01000'
SQL Server Error: 53
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen
(Connect()).
Connection failed:
SQLState: '08001'
SQL Server Error: 17
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist
or access denied.
================================================== ===============
Why am I getting these errors?
SQL Server is installed to accept mixed mode (or Windows authentication
mode)
SQL Server is running.
VS.Net Professional is loaded on this system so an ODBC driver should
be available.
What steps, other than I am taking should I be doing?
Are you doing this on the machine that MSDE is running on? If you are trying
to do this remotely then you will not be able to connect to the database
server, since you supplied DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS=1 as a parameter to your
installation. Also since you installed a named instance you will need to
supply the full name to the instance, which in your case will be <your
machine name>\HipMSDE. (local) will not work as the database server name, as
it will try to connect to a server with only the same name as the machine
and not the named instance.

|||Jim,
Thank you for your reply.
When I changed the name to the name of my computer "SEDNA", it worked!
I thought "(local)" was the proper name to use because the upsizing
wizard offered it in the list. I thought it "discovered" that name, and
after all the name in Enterprize manager is "(local)" not "SEDNA". Now
that you let me in on this sectret, I know. Thank you for tell me the
other scret, that I can upsize to MSDE using "SEDNA\HipMSDE". There is
know whay I could have guessed this!
This all frustrates me very much! How am I supposed to know to use
"SEDNA" rather than "(local)" when "(local)" is offered to me in the
list? and Enterprize manager does not use "SEDNA"? How am I supposed to
know the sintax "SEDNA\HipMSDE" when that is NOT offered in the list?
How am I supposed to know the secret code "SEDNA\HipMSDE"? Nothing
anywhere tells me this sintax!!?!
> it will try to connect to a server with only the same name as the
machine
> and not the named instance
Where the #%$* am I supposed to discover this! I've been reading these
instructions for two days!!!?! I have not seen anything even hinting to
this.
Why does the system mislead me and accept "(local)" under othere
contexts such as VB.NET connection strings. It was the VB.NET
connection string context that lead me to guess "SEDNA" because that
works in a connection string even though the name of the instance is
NOT!!!! "SEDNA", its the name of the machine.
Where do I learn all these mysteries?

Errors loading a text file into a Sql Server Destination
I am trying to load 14+ million rows from a text file into local Sql Server. I tried using Sql Server destination because it seemed to be faster, but after about 5 million rows it would always fail. See various errors below which I received while trying different variations of FirstRow/LastRow, Timeout, Table lock etc. After spending two days trying to get it to work, I switched to OLE DB Destination and it worked fine. I would like to get the Sql Server Destination working because it seems much faster, but the error messages aren't much help. Any ideas on how to fix?
Also, when I wanted to try just loading a small sample by specifying first row/last row, it would get to the upper limit and then picked up speed and looked like it kept on reading rows of the source file until it failed. I expected it to just reach the limit I set and then stop processing.

The commit size is most likely the problem. SQL Server will be storing those rows in memory until it is time to commit them. I suggest trying different commit sizes until you find one that is optimum.
You tried 1M? Try 500,000 rows - if that works, maybe try more, or if it fails try less. You should find a good value fairly quickly.
if this does not help, let us know more.

i have the same Problemes, how you described it.
Did you start the mail Session?
Have a look on this:
USE master
EXEC xp_startmail
Please enter this brackets in Sql Query and start them.
My Problems already exists. I have problems in sending an e-mail if a error occurs by excuting jobs.
Bye
Harald Bothner|||Ok fellows...
There goes the answers to both of you.
1- Error18025:xp_test_mapi_profile failed with mail error0x80040111
The SQL Server relies in the MAPI libraries to send email messages. Unfortunately, it works at its best allied with Exchange, wich you seem to do not have. But it also works with a pop3 box, leaving the inconvenient need of requiring an Outlook open to get and send messages, and you would have to manage it manually.
Try to use Exchange. If you cant, try using CDONTS. Take a look at the link bellow:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;312839
2- mail problems by using sql server
It seems to me that you have not configured the SQL Mail Agent, wich is used by the SQL Server Agent to send notifications about alerts or job status etc.
Take a look at the properties of your SQL Server Agent and see if the email profile is set properly. If its not, just set it and then restart the SQL Server Agent and youre done.

I tried opening the Distribution database via Management Studio to do what you said but when I click on a table the option to open it is greyed out. This is only the case for tables in the Distribution db and for the temp_db. I can open all tables everywhere else.
I tried looking into permissions but don't see any differences between settings on dbs that allow me to open tables and those that don't.
I'm kind of a noob to SQL Server 2005 so I may just be missing something simple.

Select Disable, it will remove all your references as to the Replication.
Let me know if it works.
|||if this is SQL 2005, look in distribution database for table MSmerge_publications and see if your deleted publication still exists. if so, delete it.|||Yes, I'm using SQL Server 2005.
Thanks.
Scott
|||You'll have to try TSQL queries to access the table. Open a new query window:
use distribution
go
select * from MSmerge_publications
go
|||Yes, that did it!
However, the problematic data was in another set of tables...
There was a record in the MSReplication_monitordata table and an associated record in the MSSnapshot_agents and MSSnapshot_history that were associated with the publication that no longer existed.
Not sure why this data was still in these tables but once I deleted these records, the error in Replication Monitor dissapeared.
Thanks!
